Thousands Of Bees Removed From Orlando House

Blaine Helsby had not been in the guesthouse in a few months. When he went in, he thought he heard some kind of animal in the ceiling.

It turns out it was bees. Thousands of bees, in fact, both living and dead. "I went to check it out," Helsby said. "I thought everything was fine, then I looked down, and it was like an "Exorcist" moment. The whole floor is just covered in bees. I freaked out."

Dead bees covered the second-floor mother-in-law suite and the window sill. Bees were also spilling out of a crack in the ceiling.

A bee removal team went into the home Tuesday. They say the bees apparently entered through a vent on the back wall to build its hive. When it got too crowded, the bees just started building into the house.

"The hive is so heavy that it is causing the ceiling to sag and break through," said Corey Hicks with Critter Control, "so the bees can have free run of the house."

Hicks actually had to cut into the ceiling, and remove the hive. He said they removed about 130 pounds in bees.

Hicks said bee removals are very common this time of year. They do about six to 10 bee jobs a day.
